Dawn Cycle / Festival Launch

Due to the success of the 2012 Dawn Cycle, we’ve decided to launch the festival with this literally eye-opening event. Come join us as the sun comes up, and your stress levels go down. If you do, you’ll be part of the first Mobility week event in the whole of Europe! This will be a leisurely cycle to welcome in both the day and the festival, with a stop for a refuel (a complimentary cuppa and a croissant) before heading back into town. We promise to have you back in time for work, school or bed! We will be visiting the location of the fascinating ceremonial avenue at Ballingowan which was discovered during the archaeological excavationsas part of the construction of the new N22 Tralee Bypass. The avenue which may have been used for pagan rituals in times gone. Lucky for us, around the September 16th the Sun, Moon and Mercury all break the horizon at this point.

…the avenue may have aligned on a celestial body at a significant time of the year. For instance the sun rises along the centre line of the avenue on the 21^st March and in September the Sun, Moon and Mercury all break the horizon at this point around the 16^thday of the month – Rubicon Heritage

Meals on Wheels – Tralee

Come cycle from restaurant to restaurant to enjoy a fun four course meal. The informal seating arrangements and the chatty cycles always ensures that this is a particularly social event. Due to limited numbers and the popularity of this event, please email info@kerrybicyclefestival.org to book your tickets in advance.
No more than 4 tickets can be booked by any one person.
Tickets for the meal are €25 each and is limited to 30 places, so get yours right away.

As this cycle will take place after dusk, don’t forget your lights.

Meals on Wheels – Killorglin

Kerry Bicycle Festival veteran Luke Prendeville has moved to the lovely Killorglin and he’s taken the Meals on Wheels event with him.
Come cycle from restaurant to restaurant to enjoy a fun four course meal. The informal seating arrangements and the chatty cycles always ensures that this is a particularly social event.
Tickets for the meal are €30 each and is limited to 25 places, please email luke@kerrybicyclefestival.org to book in advance.

Cycle Advocacy talk

Sandwiched in the middle of a week fun leisurely cycle events comes the serious part, how do we make Kerry a more cycle friendly and sustainable county ? This year we are delighted to welcome Joachim Hochstein from Frankfurt City Council to speak on how Frankfurt worked to create a bicycle-friendly city and how they view the bicycle as a key to the development of sustainable urban mobility culture. Joachim is the Head of the cycling office within the City of Frankfurt and vice chairman of the ADFC ( German Cyclists’ Federation) for the Hesse region. This event is presented with the support of The Goethe Institute as part of their Mobility Week programme, and is presented in conjunction with Transition Kerry and cyclist.ie.

With so many events in so many venues, the bicycle proves the perfect partner in crime, letting you nip about town and sample the best Tralee has to offer – a Japanese acrobat, a stained glass census, a little bit of trad… This cycle will visit a number of different event, venues and happenings especially selected by the organisers of Culture Night, after which you are free to explore on your own.
